A defining feature of NUS Site A is the extensive use of greenery across the building’s different levels. Trees, shrubs, groundcovers and trailing species were carefully installed within planter boxes and elevated landscape areas, creating layers of vegetation that soften the building’s architectural edges and introduce greenery into the student living environment.

Greenery Within the Student Environment
The landscape was designed to be experienced as part of everyday student life rather than as a separate garden space. Greenery is integrated along circulation routes, atriums, balconies and elevated communal areas, bringing planting closer to the hostel rooms and shared spaces.
At the atrium, layered planting creates a welcoming green environment around the hostel’s entrance and communal areas. Across the upper levels, cascading and hanging plants extend over planter edges, creating a distinctive vertical landscape that changes the character of the building as the vegetation matures.
Plant Establishment & Maintenance
Given the extensive amount of elevated and multi-level planting, plant establishment was an important part of our landscape delivery. Our team carried out regular watering, fertilisation, pruning, plant health monitoring and general horticultural maintenance to support healthy growth following installation. Close supervision by our site team ensured that planting works were progressively inspected and maintained throughout the establishment period, allowing the landscape to develop into the lush and layered greenery envisioned for the project.
